The Young Girls Activity Group is a group for 8-13 year olds; younger girls under 8 are welcome but must be accompanied by a female parent/carer. We meet on alternate Saturdays between 2pm and 4pm at the Friendship Cafe or a pre-arranged meeting place if an activity or outing has been planned.
All attendees are required to complete a registration form, there is no joining fee but we do request a small donationtion at each session to help support the group.
There is also an annual residential activity holiday usually over two nights in the spring/summer. The girls take part in a range of activities from climbing, abseiling, orienteering, and gorge walking to list just a few.
The Group provides a safe & secure environment in which all are made to feel comfortable. It is a place they can socialise and make new friends and at the same time participate in a wide variety of activities. We take care to ensure all our activities take into consideration the social, cultural and religious needs of all the girls.
Some examples of activities undertaken by the Group:
The Group has a fantastic level of voluntary support from Mums/Carers/Grans/Nans – this is always encouraged and greatly appreciated, and definitely helps with the smooth running of the sessions! Feedback from everyone involved forms an important part in planning the many varied and fun sessions.
The group was set up in April 2006 following demand from girls aged 8 – 13 years who had reached an age where they had stopped attending the male dominated Friday Night Club for Dads and Lads and the existing older Girls Group (for up to 19 yrs old) was not appropriate to their age group). It was recognised that there was nothing specifically being provided for the 8 – 13 years age group on a regular basis and so we decided to start a Girls Group focusing on the needs of younger girls. The Group has strengthened in capacity and numbers over the last few years with girls from different backgrounds being encouraged to come along and take part in activities, events and a yearly residential outing.
“Without the Support of All there would be no group”.
