The Friendship Cafe

Gymnation has a membership from over twenty nationalities. It was established as a non profit making charity making health and fitness facilities available to the local community, and is trying in particular to encourage take up of exercise among the local community and hard to reach groups. We have won national awards and recognition for work in the community, particularly with young people. Memberships and fees are kept at a minimum to encourage uptake of exercise.

Opening times are:
-Monday to Sunday 9:30am to 11:30am:
-Monday to Friday, 4:30 to 8:30pm.

£16 per month or £2 a session

Young men - aged between 14 - 18 are charged £1 a session and can attend upon completion of a parental consent form and an introduction to the gym by one of our instructors. They can attend any of the above morning sessions or Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7 - 8:30pm when the gym is quieter and we ensure that there is sufficient staffing to supervise and advise.

There are also 5 sessions  a week for women only with a Qualified Female Instructor, (since the main times are dominated almost exclusively by males).

Mondays to Thursdays 12:15 to 2pm, Saturday 12:15 to 3:00pm,

Costs: £5.00 per month or 50p  a session.

 There is no extra charge for inductions  / introductions to the gym) but it is a compulsory requirement for Health & Safety reasons, as well as a simple and confidential Health questionnaire which needs to be completed.

You are welcome to ask for advice from any of our qualified instructors. Please speak to your GP before undertaking any new programme of exercise, especially if you have long term conditions, are on medication or are expecting/had a baby in the past 18 months.

NOTE THAT THERE IS NO PARKING PERMITTED ON SITE DURING THE WEEKDAYS UNTIL 4:30PM

Chand (above) is one of our longest standing members and volunteers. By the way, you don't need to look like Chand or be a supermodel to attend. We have people from all different backgrounds and age ranges. Our oldest member is 76.

You will not find a sauna, spa or swimming pool at GymNation, but you will find a friendly community atmosphere, where people talk to each other instead of listening to loud music, and the cost is low so as to be affordable.

We have a wide selection of free weights and machines, dumbells from 2 to 70kgs, and a modest boxing workout room and a cardio area which includes bikes, rowing machines, steppers and treadmills.
